What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence, also called battering, is a pattern of behavior that includes physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse used to maintain power and control over an intimate partner such as a spouse, girlfriend//boyfriend, or former partner. It includes both legal and illegal behavior. Some signs of domestic violence include

  • Physical violence
  • Sexual violence
  • Coercion and threats
  • Emotional abuse
  • Isolation and Economic Abuse
  • Minimizing, denying, & blaming
  • Using Children

BIP – Certified Program

The Batterer Intervention Program (BIP) is certified through the Office of the Kansas Attorney General. All referrals are screened for appropriateness using the Kansas Domestic Violence Offender Assessment tool. Those considered appropriate complete a minimum of 24 group sessions.

OVM is an interdenominational, church-based agency that emphasizes justice, accountability, caring and reconciliation. Our offices are located in Newton, Kansas and we serve the greater community, including inmates at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility (HCF).
